Behind the scenes of Until we arrive collection

On Saturday I did a shoot for my latest collection Until we Arrive. This was the collection that I showed at the Aus Grads Fashion Week and am going to present at the Fashion Debut tradeshow in Sydney, so I needed great photos! I worked with such a great team which made the day stress free. Katie van den Bos did such an amazing job modelling at the shoot, she is so professional and interacts so beautifully with Edition garments. Kent Marcus always amazes me with how he interprets a location, I love how raw his images are. Hayley Boyle did a fantastic job as always on hair and makeup. I went for quite an androgynous look which I think worked well!

Website up!

I have been busy working on a new website for the past few weeks and it is almost finished. I am very happy with how it has turned out. I still need to scan in press bits and pieces so ignore that tab, but besides that it is ready to go. Please check it out!

This is the first post in 2013 and I am excited for a busy year. I have just found out I will be one of ten designers participating in the Debut section of the tradeshow Fashion Exposed in Sydney. Lets hope this is the start of something exciting!

Preparing at the moment for my photoshoot next weekend!

Until we Arrive collection at AGFW

These are some beautiful photos from photographer Domonic Spagnolo of my collection 'Until we Arrive' that I presented in Sydney at the Carriageworks at the end of November for the AGFW.

I am happy with the collection and how it looks on the catwalk. I would have loved to work more with the models to pose and interact with the garments in the way I had imagined, but I guess this is all part of letting go of some of the control at a large fashion event. I wish the models could have all had the same shoes!

This collection is the most commercial collection I have created; I still created every garment using zero waste Selvedge 2 Selvedge pattern making. Although instead of using all sustainable fabrics, the materials used are a combination of silk, wool, cotton and polyester with the majority of the collection being stretch to make it highly wearable.

Until we Arrive is inspired by the journey of the Bogong moths each year. In particular the landscapes they inhabit, such as the Australian Alps and around the Canberra region. The transformation of the moths physical form during its lifecycle has inspired the stories in the collection. Above all the collection's shapes are inspired by a combination of creating wearable garments and how that works with my zero waste pattern making system.

Australian Graduates Fashion Week

So excited to be part of the Australian Graduates Fashion Week in Sydney this weekend! Check out the video, the EDITION garment is the red dress, when the model is moving it looks best. I am so nervous to see what it is going to be like. To send my collection off to Sydney was horrible. I am hoping I can get the models to interact with the garments but I dont know if that will happen!

Fashion System for Tomorrow for Fashionably Early

These are the final photos that Amy and I decided to use for our proposal for a Fashion System for Tomorrow for the Fashionably Early exhibition at the Gallery of Australian Design. We did the shoot down at the Cotter Damn crossing and I think the landscape really enhanced the garments in the final images!

I was very excited to stumble across a segment on channel 64 called 4me (I think it is only on in the ACT) on Fashionably Early! You can see it on the website below, with Selvedge2Selvedge images as well as EDITION and AYLOR images. Great interview with Kate Shaw head of Fashion at CIT also

FASHIONABLY EARLY

Selvedge 2 Selvedge's image used for the promotion of the exhibition! This image was my favourite from the shoot, pity the feet were missing or we would have used it for the life size image at the exhibition!

Design Process for EDITION for 'Fashion Systems of Tomorrow'

For the GAD exhibition we have been very busy getting everything together! These are some of the images that show the EDITION process I went through to create my 'Follow the unknown dress'

For me the process involves starting with an image and the lines I want to use for my pattern making, and then playing in the garment. I always want to see how it will move and work with the body. This involves lots of trial and error and getting to know the piece. I am so looking forward to Amy arriving in Canberra on Monday for the Opening of the exhibtion!

S2S photoshoot with Robert Coppa

Photographer Robert Coppa was nice enough to ask to use the garment Amy and I designed for the Selvedge 2 Selvedge film for an experiemntal photoshoot last weekend!

The images produced on the day were so exciting, cannot wait to see the final ones and put them up! The models were the stunning Katie van den Bos and Deirdre Crossan. Deirdre will be modelling for us this weekend for our shoot for the GAD exhibition in Canberra next month!

Loved working on a shoot that was experimental and not what I would normally do, I think the best ideas come out of playing around with no pressure of what images are produced. Although saying that, the images produced were amazing!!! Can't go wrong with great models, photographer and hair and makeup!

Behind the scenes of the EDITION shoot - Uncover

On Saturday I did a shoot for my new lookbook with the wonderful Robert Coppa. His photographs are so beautiful and he understands my garments. Katie was amazing as always, she moves perfectly! Natalia was fantastic with the makeup creating the perfect wine coloured lip I was after. Hayley did such a great job with the hair, making Katie's hair the perfect mix of crazy cat lady and stunning model!

The concept for the shoot started with the word 'uncover' looking at the ideas typically associated with fashion and how sustainable practices can uncover a new way of thinking about garments. Each piece is multi functional and works well to layer with the other garments. All pieces are made with zero waste, Selvedge 2 Selvedge pattern making. Every piece is made with 100% Merino Wool sustainably made in NZ so it feels so soft.

Final images coming soon!

Behind the scenes of the Selvedge 2 Selvedge film

Behind the scene photos of the film on Friday. We were so lucky to have the fantastic skills of Kent Marcus filming, Katie van den Bos modelling, Natalia Pastor with makeup and Amanda Fletcher with hair. Everything came together really well with the concept that Amy and I developed and how Kent interpreted this into film. The collaborative way we worked together was great. The concept for the film began with us creating the different stages of a garment and then this was related to Katie evolving as she discovered her environment, showing how the garment evolves. We surprisingly had great weather! Once Kent has made the final edit on the film we will have it up.
