Fashionably Early Canberra Parade

These are the professional photos of the parade, I love how the movement in my garments has been captured. During the whole parade the models were constantly interacting with the garments to catch the light on Nellie People's jewellery pieces which would have made it hard to get such beautiful pictures!

Fashionably Early Canberra at GAD

A few images from Fashionably Early Canberra of the garments I presented in collaboration with Nellie Peoples from ANU Gold and Silversmithing. The collection that Nellie and I presented looked at the roles of jewellery and garments. The way in which traditionally a garment is made and then the jewellery is added was a boundary we wanted to overcome through our collaboration. Our idea was to create a total look in which the garment and jewellery piece would interact in new ways to force their roles to change. The jewellery pieces act as though they are a growth on the garment slowly taking over and controlling it. Playing with the weight of the metal and the weight of the fabric, the total looks were only realised once the jewellery pieces and garments were connected.
Images from the photoshoot of all the garments from all designers will be avaliable soon and I will share them. Not a typical photoshoot so will be amazing to see the final results!

Fashionably Early Opening

Opening night! It was so much fun being able to show our mates and families our work. There was also a little parade of the wearable outer shells that was great. Our photographer Kent Marcus and model Deirdre Crossan came along too which was awesome!

Fashion System for Tomorrow for Fashionably Early

These are the final photos that Amy and I decided to use for our proposal for a Fashion System for Tomorrow for the Fashionably Early exhibition at the Gallery of Australian Design. We did the shoot down at the Cotter Damn crossing and I think the landscape really enhanced the garments in the final images!

Design Process for EDITION for 'Fashion Systems of Tomorrow'

For the GAD exhibition we have been very busy getting everything together! These are some of the images that show the EDITION process I went through to create my 'Follow the unknown dress'

For me the process involves starting with an image and the lines I want to use for my pattern making, and then playing in the garment. I always want to see how it will move and work with the body. This involves lots of trial and error and getting to know the piece. I am so looking forward to Amy arriving in Canberra on Monday for the Opening of the exhibtion!

BTS of the S2S shoot for Fashionably Early Exhibition

Had so much fun with the great team on the weekend despite it being freezing in Canberra with Kent Marcus, Deirdre Crossan and Hayley Boyle. Amy and I were so excited to finally do this shoot for GAD as it has been a long time coming!!! This shoot has been in the planning for ages and we have been stressing about what we will present and will we be good enough to go up against other emerging Australian designers. We decided that what we love is creating an atmosphere where the model and our designs look at ease in the environment and the garments are complimented by beautiful hair and makeup. I think that we got this right and the final images are exactly what we were after. Cant wait to see them printed and the main one printed at life size for the exhibition!
